There are clear parallels between sports and professional growth.
A few months ago I met Caroline Neil through The Post , and we immediately connected over our shared experiences. Our dialogue around career growth, finding purpose, the foundational role of sport, and the evolving "unwritten" chapters of life felt refreshingly genuine. I was honored to join her on the podcast and contribute to such an open, thoughtful discussion.
As I continue to grow both professionally and personally, I find myself returning to lessons I first learned on the soccer field—lessons that have shaped the way I lead and approach my work:
1. Always work your hardest: Give your best every day. Perfection isn’t the goal—consistency is. Your best might look different from day to day, and that’s okay.
2. Empower your people: Every business is a team. Great leadership is about creating space for others to thrive. Every person brings a unique skill set and perspective—encourage authenticity in YOURSELF and Your Team, and recognize the value that is brought to the organization.
3. See the entire field, or the big picture, or the business as a whole.
"Just like on the field, success in business depends on how well all the moving parts work together. Understanding the whole—beyond individual roles or silos—drives stronger outcomes."
As a former college soccer player turned coach and marketing creative, I've discovered that leadership moves across playing fields. In this episode, I share her journey from soccer to marketing executive, translating athletic mindsets to creative problem-solving, and finding purpose through career transitions.
